Welcome! Hardeep Shergill is a respected educator and academic known for bridging theory and praxis as it relates to anti-racist, anti-oppressive and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Hardeep Shergill is an elementary school educator and former Early Reading Coach with the Toronto District School Board. She is also pursuing her Ph.D. at OISE/University of Toronto, is a researcher for the Centre for Integrative Anti-Racism Studies (CIARS) at OISE, and co-facilitates Dr. George Dei’s learning circles. Hardeep has presented at conferences such as the 2023 Decolonizing Conference, Federation Day (2022) for the Elementary Teachers of Toronto, 2nd and 3rd Annual International Conference for the Centre for Leadership and Diversity, and the 2023 Educator’s Anti-Racism Conference for Harmony Movement. She was also a MC for the 2023 Decolonization Conference, and moderated a conversation with keynote speaker, Dr. Nelson Maldanado-Torres. Furthermore, Hardeep helped organize and facilitate a CIARS in Conversation panel entitled, “Critical Cross-Racial Conversations: Thinking Through Our Complicities, Implications and Responsibilities”. Additionally, Hardeep is the author of a children’s book entitled, “Manmeet Kaur: My Story About 1984”, a story about the Sikh genocide perpetuated by the Indian government. Hardeep has also written engaging lesson plans and resources for the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada. She is passionate about actionizing anti-racist and anti-colonial education. As a child who was born and brought up in Rexdale, Ontario, an underserved community in Toronto, Hardeep is a fierce advocate of learners and families from marginalized communities. It is her hope that educational spaces become more inclusive and epistemologically multicentric for all students.
